Cegep sketch: Funny/Winded Story?

This was an in-class assignment for a larger project us third year illustration students were working on. The big picture was a scene, drawn with the specs a would-be-employer was giving us ( Ie our teacher constantly throwing us curve balls) one was in our 4th week working on it, we had to somehow add a Griffon to the darn drawing.

The super fun part was after we gathered references and worked on our Griffon, we had a battle of the sketches. 30 something students, including myself were to put our works on the board 2 at a time and have quick votes to see who would be kicked off and who's Griffon would move on to battle another.

Here's my contribution

Then the famous incident happened. My friend drew a purposely and ridiculously goofy Griffon that although was cute and dopey wouldn't fit with everyones scenery illustration ( Did I mention that? Whichever Griffon won, that style of bird/lion had to be integrated into everyones scene seamlessly)

Everyone was voting his Griffon to win because it was cute, forgetting if it did win - we would have to completely re-do our scenery to fit with its goofy design. After a few would-be winners were voted off instead of his (and he knew it was a joke drawing) it came to me and him...I was winning a few battles and was worried coming against his.

I was promptly kicked off my winning streak.

I think this was when our teacher, John, thought it best to really drive the point home: If we kept voting the goofy sketch to stay, we all were going to have to basically re-start our illustration to fit with his Griffons design. Luckily everyone then understood and the very talented Melissa won the battle!

In the end it worked out because her style sheet was beyond perfect.   Yay Melissa!

Mental/Creative Bloc

I had one of those artistically frustrating weeks where I not only lost all ability to draw but to even come up with ideas of what to draw.

I opened photoshop and just went with the flow and for no good reason drew my rabbit with a pacifier...

fun sketch about life and crap.

It's about time I gather my portfolio up and hit the pavement, grow up and get a real job...but my bed is so warm.

My friends respect me

My lovely friend and fellow illustrator Sarah Misko (who recently left us for Philadelphia) drew a picture of me.

She really "gets me" ya know?

What even sadder:  Last year I went to a halloween party as the Cat Lady....costume to prove it.

I cant believe its already 4 o'clock...I thought it was 11am.

Anyhow, I'm off to start and finish my first embarrassing story comic. Inspiration comes from today -_-

Here's a doodle I drew of myself last friday because I'm popular.

I've been told I'm a good storyteller..but only when it's a story of how I recently embarrassed myself.

So to keep me updating here regularly, I'll share some of my shame.

Updates coming soon!

This is my fat dog, Rusty

He looks more like that dog from UP...but it would make sense since I've been watching cartoons/films all week.

I visited the U.S today for a couple of hours. We (my family and me) inhaled our glorious and huge breakfasts at Crackle Barrel, then shopped at stores we dont yet have in Canada. Super swell day!

On the way home I caught sight of a deer or two running into the forest. So to kill some drive time, I doodled them.

I'm excited to finally have some of my work up on the internet! This will mostly please family and close friends who have been asking to see my work for ages - so here you go buds, now leave me alone.

Ps: I love you guys.
